It was with great consternation that I ordered PP 12, with all the horrible reviews, and a sprinkle of few good ones. In the end I decided to chance the investment because I really, really need PP on my system. After running it for a few days for a good evaluation, my response is, 'What's the excitement all about?' It's just plain old PP in a slightly nicer face that runs on Windows 7, and it works just about exactly like it always did.
Like many reviewers over the years, PP has become to me an invaluable part of my computing. And like them, I needed to upgrade because frigging W7 would not operate PP 9.
Once I received the disc, I installed the new ware with great curiosity. Would this be disaster as it was for so many? Not good news.
It basically works, however it crashes a lot. Especially when moving documents around on the Paper Port desktop, I will often get the Silver Circle of Futility (Windows 7's little spinning silver circle that shows up when it wants you to wait while it sorts things out).
The form filler in the previous version of PP worked reasonably well. Not so, this version. The form filler is very quirky and hard to use.
BTW I am running this on a dual-core HP system with 32-bit Home Edition W7.
UPDATE a couple of months later:
I noticed recently that sometimes my computer's processors get real busy when I'm not doing anything, and if I try to do something it is very bogged down. On checking the task manager I found that the culprit was an application called PDFProFiltSrv.exe, which was using up 40% of the processors' resources. On doing some research I found that it was a Nuance indexing program that is part of PP12. Microsoft has a fix for this, to keep the program from initiating. It is at this address:
